When I was pregnant with my first child in 2019, I decided to go to the Bahamas for my babymoon. We stayed at the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar resort in Nassau, and had an amazing time.

Why We Chose the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar for Our Babymoon

Location: Just 5 miles from downtown Nassau
Zika-Free Destination: A major plus for pregnant travelers in 2019
Vibe: A calm, upscale environment with other babymooning couples. The resort seemed full of pregnant ladies waddling around and their husbands who were excited for the opportunity to have a whiskey and cigar.

Despite my concerns about being too remote, the resort’s central location made it easy to enjoy the on-site amenities while still being close enough to explore the island. Plus, the short direct flight from NYC to Nassau made the trip incredibly convenient.

Enjoying the Pools and Beach at Baha Mar

The Grand Hyatt Baha Mar boasts multiple beautiful pools, plus a white-sand beach with calm turquoise waters – ideal for lounging or floating on a raft. This was the highlight of our stay: lazy afternoons alternating between the pools and the ocean with plenty of space to relax.

Food & Dining at Baha Mar

While the property isn’t all-inclusive, the food quality makes it worth every penny. We enjoyed:

Lunch: Sandwiches on breezy patios
Dinner: Elegant dishes like steak and pasta
Atmosphere: Upscale, yet not overly formal. It was a very luxurious place to rest and treat myself to the best of the best.

Hotel Rooms: Spacious & Stylish

Our room was surprisingly large, especially for a standard category. Though we were on the ground floor, we still had a view of the ocean from our private patio. The space felt modern, bright, and very clean. Plus, I’m always a fan of sleek marble floors and spa-style bathrooms.

Exploring Downtown Nassau

While most of our time was spent enjoying the resort, we ventured off property one day and it was totally worth it. Highlights of downtown Nassau include:

Junkanoo Beach, Prince George Warf & Straw Market: Great for local flair and souvenirs
Queen’s Staircase: 66 limestone steps carved in the 1700s
Local Eats: Don’t miss the conch fritters!
Public Bus Back: A fun, authentic ride through Nassau’s neighborhoods

It’s easy to walk or take a cab from the resort, and it adds cultural richness to your trip.

Final Thoughts: Is Grand Hyatt Baha Mar Worth It?

Absolutely. The Grand Hyatt Baha Mar is clean, upscale, and family-friendly, without being overrun with noise or crowds. While it’s not all-inclusive, the high quality of food, service, and amenities more than make up for it. From the sprawling pools and private beach to the spacious rooms and excellent location, it was a perfect babymoon spot, and a great option for anyone looking for a luxury Bahamas vacation.
